Discovering the great outdoors with Conquer

Are you thinking of joining us on one or more of our hikes, treks or challenges? Are you looking to improve your physical and mental well-being? Are you looking to get into training for an upcoming challenge?

Whatever your reason or motivitation, we'd like to tell you a bit more about our hikes, who can join us, how you can join in and what clothing you will need.

Who can participate in Conquer Hiking and Trekking's walks?

The short answer is...Anyone!

We have different types of hikes and treks to cater for absolute beginners through to seasoned mountain climbers. Many of our hikes are dog-friendly and some are even pub-friendly with the chance to re-hydrate at the end of a  hard yet enjoyable walk or enjoy a snack or meal in nearby coffee shops. You will find that most of our hikes take a circular route and therefore we will finish back at the starting point enabling you to find your transport easily to get home again.

Please do contact us if you would like to discuss our hikes and if you have any queries we can help you to select an appropriate hike for your needs and ability.

People come along for lots of different reasons. Some people are looking for an occasional guided hike across the Great British landscape, some to enjoy socialising with other walkers, some for general health and fitness and others to prepare for greater challenges ahead.

How can you get involved?

All of our advertised hikes are open to the general public on a first-come, first -served basis. If you see an advertised hike, trek or challenge event on our website or social media pages then please contact us (either via email or social media) to register your interest and we will email a registration form for you to complete. You don't need a membership as each event has a one-off payment (detailed on individual event advert). We will then let you know where to meet for the hike (usually the starting point), the start time and an approximate finish time.

For each trek we will guide you through some wonderful rural landscapes, walking at a suitable pace for the group and taking breaks at appropriate stages. Most importantly we will allow you to get as much enjoyment as possible from the walks and you will have ample opportunity to take in some wonderful views as we go along.

If you would like to put forward suggestions for future hikes and treks, we are always open to ideas and suggestions to please get in touch and speak to us.

We also arrange special events and challenges for groups, charities and organisations such as - The Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, The National 3 Peaks Challenge, weekend treks and bootcamps, plus treks on and around some of the great mountains of the world. Again, get in touch with us for further information if you are looking for the trip and challenge of a lifetime.

What gear will I need to join Conquer's hikes?

Please be assured, you do not need the latest and greatest in outdoor pursuits clothing! It is not a fashion show and you will not be judged on your attire.

We will advise on a 'kit list' for each event when we send a registration form out. However, certainly one of the most important pieces of clothing is a comfortable pair of walking boots. Then for standard hikes we would advise you to bring a back pack or ruck sack (to carry food/drink, layers of clothing), waterproofs, warm hat, gloves, walking socks, suitable coat, layers for under coats, long pants, sunglasses and sunscreen. You may also find walking poles helpful but these can be inexpensive and we can advise you further if required.

We find that most people, even beginners, already have the majority of this clothing in their wardrobes. If you need any advice on clothing or equipment please let us know.

We would advise you to bring a spare set of clothes along with you as we cannot guarantee great weather on every hike, especially on higher ground!

We always advise participants to wear a smile! Although many of our hikes and treks are challenging, it is still important to get some enjoyment out of it and to have a laugh and a smile along the way.

Are the hikes safe?

Each of our hikes is staffed accordingly, dependant on the number of participants. You will always be within earshot of a member of the Conquer team should you require assistance and we will be walking with you throughout the course of the hike, checking on your well-being and on hand to answer any queries that you may have.

The Conquer team will be ready to deal with all eventualities. With years of experience in the hills, mountains and landscapes of the UK and beyond, plus full qualification in first-aid, we will guide you through a safe, enjoyable hike. If a participant needs to curtail their hike for any reason, we can deal with this safely and enable the rest of the group to continue on.
